Fax FAQ’s

How do you send an internet fax?

- Typically it can be done through email or the internet fax services web interface. The quickest and easiest way would be though email. The internet fax providers all pretty much handle faxes though email the same way. You create a new email message and in the To: field you would add the country code followed by the number you’re sending to @myprovider.com. So for example I want to fax Mr. Smith an invoice, in the To: field of the email I would add 18001234567@myprovider.com. In the subject I could add “Attention Mr. Smith” if i wanted. Thats pretty much it, I would also attach the document I wished to fax. Which is typically a .pdf file or word doc.

What if I need a cover page?

- Any text in the body of the email would become the cover page. For formal cover pages with logos dates and times and what not. Your best option would be to use the web interface of your provider. They’ll have it set up and built so you can just fill in the blanks.

Do I need to download software for internet faxing?

- No additional software is required. All you need is access to email. Microsoft has however developed a plug in for Office 2003 & 2007 which will let you send a fax directly from Office if you chose to do so. Your fax provider would have more info on that.

I have/was thinking of getting a Mac, will that be a problem?

- Not at all, like I said it’s based on email. You can use your favorite mail client. Like Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail, Thunderbird. You can even send faxes directly from websites like hotmail, yahoo or gmail

Also,  if you can send/receive email from your phone or PDA. You can also send and receive faxes. Provided your device can handle .pdf files which most can.

Overall great service, I love the idea of bundling incoming and outgoing page amounts together. Thats the way it should be! I did notice one thing though, billing is done on a per minute basis for overages not pages. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing, but I guess thats up to you. eFax is the leader when it comes to internet fax, boasting 11 million subscribers worldwide and with fax numbers in 3000 cities and 30 countries.

How many companies do you know that would give you their service for free? For the person who occasionally receives a fax, this is the service for you, no question about it.

For the rest of us out there that send and receive faxes a little more frequently eFax has them covered as well. With eFax Plus and pro you can get your hands on the eFax messenger. Which will let you edit, send, zoom and rotate faxes. It’s also for converting efax’s .efx files into .pdf’s eFax pro gives you PaperMaster-pro a $199.99 Value FREE! it’s a .pdf creator with a ton of other nifty features. Including the “Optical Character Recognition (OCR)” feature which lets you convert paper documents into editable text that you can then use with your word processor or spreadsheet application.

The only thing I wasn’t happy about with eFax was the amount of outgoing pages included 30 with eFax Plus and zero with eFax Pro. Also that their support is outsourced overseas.

Pound for pound none of the other internet fax providers stand up against Myfax. Pricing, features, support it’s all there. So for 2008 Internetfaxreview.com chooses MyFax as the top pick of the year.

Internet fax. Easy as email.

As for the other top pick of the year we are giving the nod to RapidFax. The only thing Rapidfax lacks were a few of the features that turn a nice to have product into a must have.

Welcome to www.internetfaxreview.com you can browse the different internet fax service providers in their respective categories up on the top.

Traditional faxing involved sending a copy of a document from one fax machine to another, over the phone network. Internet faxing (or “email faxing”) is a general term which can refer to one of a few methods of achieving this over the Internet - with a goal of both reduced costs and increased functionality over traditional faxing.

Depending on the specific method/implementation (see below), advantages of using internet fax can include:

* - No extra telephone line required for the fax
* - Paperless communication, integrated with email
* - Send and receive multiple faxes simultaneously
* - Reduction in phone costs
* - No big expensive machines
* - Security, Faxes are delivered directly to your inbox
* - Eco-friendly, print just the faxes you need
* - No need for toner or expensive fax machine repairs
* - Mobility, access your faxes from anywhere you can receive email

So you’ve decided you’re ready to make the leap to internet fax. There are a few different internet fax providers to choose from, they all work on the same premise, delivering faxes to your email but what else? Can you receive or send a fax from your mobile phone? Can you receive them in the format you need .pdf for example. Should something go wrong do they have 24/7 support? What about overall ease of use, you shouldn’t have to read a 50 page manual and have a computer science degree just to get started. Next there is price, the different services range in price from as low as 3.95 per month which will get you a local number you can only receive faxes on. You can also go as high as $24.99 which will give you a thousand pages monthly to use for sending/receiving.

While you’re here I encourage you to leave comments on other internet fax service providers you have tried in the past. You can do so on the right hand side under the User Reviews section.
